Gujarat 2002 - the carnage against Muslims, the state
collusion to it, the futility of all our efforts ‘to
do something’, the very real fear of it spreading to
Bombay, prompted us to think differently, push the
barrier of our own schedules.
Majlis along with Open Circle, a group of visual
artists, organised India Sabka youth festival.
A four-month long campaign for India Sabka (India
belongs to everybody) among the students of 100
colleges in Mumbai and Thane culminated in a
fortnight-long competition programme. The participants
in the competitions were awarded in a two-day
festival. All the awards were sponsored by leading
publishers and art and literary magazines of the
country. Over 2000 students attended the festival.
They played games, wrote slogans, tested their general
knowledge, made music, watched film festival, made
T-shirts, attended concerts and asserted again and
again India Sabka.
