Metropolises are essentially under construction and
thus always engaged in erasing its own footprints.
We aim to evolve a niche reservoir for those
footprints. On Bombay, we have a diverse collection
– on the mill areas, the '92-93 riots, roadside
shrines, the 2004 elections, cemeteries of different
communities, assorted interviews of citizens, fish
markets and fisher folks, testimonies of banned bar
dancers, popular and public cultures, footage from
the fire brigade, documentation of various social
movements and so on. Each is a different way of
entering the city, both formally and textually.
We hope it is a collection that complicates the ways
in which we look at our city. We are expanding our
collection to include images from other cities. |
